Under the direction of a volunteer board of directors working with professional staff and volunteers, the Eastern Iowa Chapter works to raise money to support JDRF’s mission: To find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
AnnElise Walsh – Executive Director
2013 marks AnnElise’s 15th year of being involved with JDRF, beginning as a volunteer for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. Her daughter, Kasey, was diagnosed at age 4 and they began their journey by walking in the 1999 1st Annual Eastern Iowa Walk to Cure Diabetes. She joined the JDRF staff team in February 2004. Whether planning a Walk, the Promise Gala, the Ride to Cure Diabetes or a Family Outreach event, she is always amazed and humbled by the passion and dedication of volunteers, donors and partners in Eastern Iowa.
Michelle Christophersen – Office Manager
Michelle lives in Palo, Iowa with her husband, Todd, and their two children, Conner and Abby. She has been the Office Manager with Eastern Iowa JDRF for 6 years. Michelle is considered the “hub” of all information by her co-workers and is often times the first point of contact when calling Eastern Iowa JDRF. Although Michelle does not have T1D in her family, she is committed to finding a cure for T1D.
Mike Schrock – Development Coordinator
Mike is a native of Walker, Iowa and has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from Upper Iowa University. Mike currently lives in Urbana, Iowa with his wife, Heather, and their two daughters, Dylanne and Micheala. In his free time, Mike enjoys ice fishing, biking and cheering on his favorite sports teams (Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Giants and the Chicago White Sox). Mike and his family got involved with JDRF in 2009, after his youngest daughter, Micheala was diagnosed T1D. Mike has also been a T1D since the age of 15. What started as a family team from small town Iowa, soon became a “purpose” for Mike. As a Development Coordinator at Eastern Iowa JDRF, Mike is looking forward to more opportunities to raise funds, educate and advocate for a T1D cure.
McKenzie Graham – Development Coordinator
McKenzie grew up in Cedar Rapids, volunteering for the Eastern Iowa JDRF chapter after being diagnosed with T1D in 1998. She interned during her senior year at the University of Iowa and moved to Des Moines after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies. After volunteering with the Greater Iowa JDRF for a few years, she moved to Oklahoma City, OK to work, as staff, for the Oklahoma-Central Oklahoma JDRF office. After a year with Central Oklahoma, she moved back to Cedar Rapids to settle down with JDRF in her hometown. She is excited to be back and work towards a cure for T1D with the team here in Eastern Iowa.
