About Us

Our Story

Under the direction of a volunteer board of directors working with professional staff and volunteers, the Eastern Iowa Chapter works to raise money to support JDRF’s mission: To find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

Our Staff

2013 marks AnnElise’s 15th year of being involved with JDRF, beginning as a volunteer for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. Her daughter, Kasey, was diagnosed at age 4 and they began their journey by walking in the 1999 1st Annual Eastern Iowa Walk to Cure Diabetes. She joined the JDRF staff team in February 2004. Whether planning a Walk, the Promise Gala, the Ride to Cure Diabetes or a Family Outreach event, she is always amazed and humbled by the passion and dedication of volunteers, donors and partners in Eastern Iowa.

Emily Hoover—Development Coordinator
ehoover@jdrf.org

Emily is a native of Coggon, Iowa and has a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion from the University of Northern Iowa. Emily currently lives near Troy Mills, Iowa with her husband, Matt, and their two daughters, Ava and Ana.  In her free time, Emily enjoys baking, running, gardening and planning her daughter’s Birthday parties.  Emily got involved with JDRF after attending Walk to Cure Diabetes to get ideas for another non-profit walk she was planning at the time.  She also had gestational diabetes with both of her daughters and knew that T1D could likely end up being a part of her life.  Emily was diagnosed with T1D on July 29, 2011 at 28 years old.  As a Development Coordinator at Eastern Iowa JDRF, Emily is looking forward to applying her experience and dedication to fundraise to find a cure for T1D.

headshot KTKari Turner – Development Coordinator (Quad Cities)
kturner@jdrf.org

Kari is a native of Muscatine, Iowa and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in Health Promotions.  A recent transplant to Davenport, she is having a swell time exploring the Quad Cities.  She fills her free moments with traveling, cooking, performing musical theater, speaking Norwegian, and hopelessly cheering on the Cubs.  (next years the year!)  Kari got involved with JDRF in 2004 after being diagnosed with T1D at the age of 14.  She started interning in the Cedar Rapids office in January 2012 and liked it so much she didn’t want to leave.  Lucky for her a job opened up and she didn’t have to!  She is excited to be working for JDRF and is very proud to be part of such a fantastic and dedicated group of staff members and families striving to find a cure!

headshot MCMichelle Christophersen – Office Manager
mchristophersen@jdrf.org

Michelle lives in Palo, Iowa with her husband, Todd, and their two children, Conner and Abby.  She has been the Office Manager with Eastern Iowa JDRF for 6 years.  Michelle is considered the “hub” of all information by her co-workers and is often times the first point of contact when calling Eastern Iowa JDRF.  Although Michelle does not have T1D in her family, she is committed to finding a cure for T1D.

headshot MSMike Schrock – Development Coordinator
mschrock@jdrf.org

Mike is a native of Walker, Iowa and has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from Upper Iowa University.  Mike currently lives in Urbana, Iowa with his wife, Heather, and their two daughters, Dylanne and Micheala.  In his free time, Mike enjoys ice fishing, biking and cheering on his favorite sports teams (Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Giants and the Chicago White Sox).  Mike and his family got involved with JDRF in 2009, after his youngest daughter, Micheala was diagnosed T1D.  Mike has also been a T1D since the age of 15.  What started as a family team from small town Iowa, soon became a “purpose” for Mike.  As a Development Coordinator at Eastern Iowa JDRF, Mike is looking forward to more opportunities to raise funds, educate and advocate for a T1D cure.
